SIOUX LOOKOUT, Ont. - The Northwestern Health Unit has reported a new confirmed case of COVID-19 in Sioux Lookout.

It's the first new case the health unit has reported since April 22 among residents in its territory, which includes the Rainy River district and part of the Kenora district. Another new case reported Friday involved an individual who no longer lives in the region.

It's also the area's only active case, with 15 previous cases now resolved.

The health unit released little information about the new case, saying only that it was following up to notify anyone who had contact with the individual.

The new case brings northwestern Ontario's total number of confirmed cases to 95, with 89 of those resolved. The Thunder Bay District Health Unit was monitoring four active cases, including one in hospital, as of Saturday morning. The virus claimed the life of one northwestern Ontario man in April.
