Two municipalities in the Thunder Bay area have declared a significant weather event in response to heavy snowfall through much of Sunday.

Conmee Township announced its declraration Sunday morning, while Oliver Paipoonge issued one in mid-afternoon.

They are asking residents to use extra caution when travelling. Residents are advised that "the municipalit[ies] may not be able to meet maintenance standards due to the accumulation of heavy snowfall over the next 48 hours."

A snowfall warning issued for the city of Thunder Bay Sunday morning called for 10 to 20cm of snow by the afternoon, with a further 10cm expected on Monday.

The municipalities say the declaration will not change winter maintenance on municipal roads, and reports that there are no road closures at this time.

Oliver Paipoonge notes that snow clearing will not occur overnight, but will resume at 4am Monday.
