FORT FRANCES, Ont. — The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry laid dozens of charges and issued numerous warnings during a fish and wildlife enforcement blitz east of Fort Frances.
The MNRF reports that the June 22 and June 23 operation was conducted at a check station at the junction of Highway 11 and Highway 502.
Conservation officers from the ministry's Northwest Region stopped more than 2000 anglers from the United States and Canada.
They laid 53 charges and issued 41 warnings over a period of 34 consecutive hours.
Infractions for which charges were laid included:
- transporting live fish
- packaging fish so they cannot be easily counted or identified
- having an over-limit of walleye or northern pike
- failing to stop for a conservation officer
Close to 70 kilograms of fish fillets were seized during the operation, and donated locally.
The MNRF said two investigations resulting from the blitz are ongoing.
