Construction begins at Thunder Bay cannabis store (2 photos)

Store is being expanded in preparation for October opening

THUNDER BAY — A construction crew has started work at the building chosen for the site of the Ontario Cannabis Store (OCS) retail outlet in Thunder Bay.

An addition is being put on the rear of part of a strip mall near the Real Canadian Superstore that formerly housed two other businesses including a frozen yogurt store.

OCS announced the location in April, but the original plan to open the province's first cannabis stores in July was changed when the federal government delayed the legalization of marijuana until October.

OCS has said its stores will be designed with a lobby area which customers will enter before continuing to the main retail area.

Identification will be checked in the lobby to prevent access by anyone under the age of 19.

The retail section will include information about available cannabis products including accessories.
