A controversial subdivision proposal is making its way back to city council.

In 2002, applicant Ryan Jones wanted to build a condominium on land on the south side of Mountain Road directly east of the Fort William Country Club. After neighbourhood complaints about everything from traffic to environmental impact, city council turned down the request.

In 2009, plans had changed for the 18.125 hectare piece of land, instead calling for 25 lots, two green spaces and a new street.

The previous request received 15 letters of objection, this time there is only one concern from the Thunder Bay District Health Unit because the development would only be partially serviced.

Coun. Linda Rydholm, who was against the original proposal, said she’s not sure whether there will be as much opposition to the project Monday night like there was in the past.

“We’ll see what people think this round the plan has changed,” she said. “The plan is much improved (but) it’s still not consistent with what other people nearby have.”

Rydholm said she, like previous concerns by the Fort William Country Club, wants to know who would be responsible if wayward golf balls landed in people’s yards. And because the area involved is wet, Rydholm wants to be ensured that the road to the new lots is built properly.

“Engineering had better be there I don’t want to get phone calls in a year or two with poor water drainage in there like I’ve had with other places in my ward,” she said.
