THUNDER BAY – A city police officer was assaulted but not injured while attempting to approach a man who had been running into traffic.
The Thunder Bay Police Service officer was called to the Thunder Centre just after 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday after receiving reports of a man causing a disturbance outside of the Dollarama.
The man was reportedly being followed by as many as six people and was running into traffic. He is said to have been combative when approached by the officer.
The 40-year-old man has been charged with assaulting a peace officer and under the Liquor License Act for being intoxicated in a public place. He is being held in custody for a Thursday court appearance.
