THUNDER BAY — Precautions that Ontario is taking against the Coronavirus are affecting the work assignments of Thunder Bay District Health Unit staff.

Public health street nurses assigned to the Thunder Bay Public Library's Brodie and Waverley community hubs are being temporarily withdrawn for other duties.

The move was announced by the library on its Twitter feed.

"Due to the workload and emerging situation regarding COVID-19...the health unit is reallocating some nurses to help manage the increase in calls, etc." the message stated.

According to the library, street nurses will be unavailable at the libraries for the next seven to eight weeks.

The TBDHU did not respond directly to an inquiry from Dougall Media on Tuesday about the redeployment.

However, on its own Twittter feed, it said nurses will continue to be available at Shelter House three days a week, at Grace Place on Mondays, and at the Dew Drop Inn  on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Janet DeMille will hold a news conference Thursday morning.

An advisory from TBDHU said she will provide an update on the evolving COVID-19 situation from a public health perspective, and on the work that staff are currently doing.

To date, no presumed or confirmed cases of Coronavirus have been reported within the District of Thunder Bay.
