THUNDER BAY - A Thunder Bay correctional officer arrested amid an ongoing breach of trust investigation made his first appearance in court Thursday morning.

Andy Jason Saindon, 38, was arrested by Thunder Bay police and charged with one count of breach of trust, possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, possession of MDMA for the purpose of trafficking, trafficking in tobacco, and possession of cannabis for the purpose of selling.

Saindon appeared by audio in a Thunder Bay courtroom from the police headquarters on Balmoral Street

Police say Saindon was arrested Wednesday morning, June 24, outside his place of work.

The investigation is still in its early stages and is ongoing, police say.

Limited details are available at this time but police have confirmed the charges are related to the institution.

Counsel for Saindon, Gilbert Labine, requested a temporary publication ban which prevents the publication of evidence discussed at the accused's court appearance.

Saindon will appear in a different courtroom later Thursday morning for a potential release.
