Costco eyes Duluth for a store location

The U.S.-based multi-national has reportedly chosen a site

DULUTH, Minnesota — After waiting for years for Costco to expand to the city, some residents of Thunder Bay will be disappointed to learn its sister city of Duluth appears closer to the front of the line.

According to multiple media reports in Minnesota, Costco has filed permit applications for a site not far from Miller Trunk Highway.

The company, however, has made no public announcements about its intentions.

Duluth has been rumoured to be in Costco's long-range expansion plans for several years.

In 2013, then-Thunder Bay Mayor Keith Hobbs said Costco would be a good addition to the community because it would help reduce the number of people travelling to Minnesota to shop.

The closest Canadian cities with Costco warehouses are Winnipeg and Sudbury.
