FORT FRANCES — A 26-year-old resident of Couchiching First Nation has been charged with uttering counterfeit money.
Rainy River District Ontario Provincial Police were called to investigate the use of a counterfeit $100 bill, according to a news release issued March 1.
Police were able to quickly identify a suspect from surveillance equipment in the victim’s business.
As a result Brett Tuesday, 26, was charged and will appear in Fort Frances court on March 22.
Police are reminding businesses and members of the public to look for the following signs of counterfeit money:
- The bills are thick paper, not polymer;
- The translucent plastic on the bills is actually tape;
- There are hash marks on the top right corner of the face side of the bill, or the corner may be just cut off;
- In all examples, the maple leaf on the left side is not translucent and is not a hologram.
