A new hotel will be moving to Thunder Bay after being approved by city council Monday.
Construction on the 140-room, five-storey Marriott will begin this spring across the parking lot from the Superstore. The second of its kind in Canada, the hotel will cater to longer-term guests. At three stars, it will also feature a pool and lounge. The city also approved the second phase of the development, which will include restaurants and retail space.
Thompson Centre Inc. owner Lou Meandro said talks are underway with Earl’s, Pizza Hut, A&W and Harvey’s right now.
“We’re making a determination which brand to go with,” Meandro said Monday night.
Construction on that phase is expected to begin this summer.
