Thunder Bay city council is set to award a half-million dollar contract for work on the city-owned Whalen building.

The $563,000 contract is for improvements, including the interior redevelopment of the sixth floor in the building for Tornado Medical. Work will also be done on the seventh floor for another potential tenant.

This will be the current council’s last meeting. The new mayor and council will begin after the Dec. 6 swearing in ceremony.

Also at Monday’s meeting, a recommendation will come forward asking that fees be waived for three buses to assist with transportation of participants and supporters to various events during the Special Olympic Ontario 2011 Winter Games.

Administration is also recommending that council meetings be streamed live on the Internet. During a month-long pilot project, more than 100 people watched the live video-streamed meetings.
