City council is being asked to set aside $7 million this year for the construction of two new fire halls.

The money will also be used to renovate four existing fire halls to accommodate shared facilities with Superior North EMS

The plan would see the Neebing Avenue fire station rebuilt in its existing location and the Brown Street firehall relocated to a location still to be confirmed.

The proposal includes shared Fire and EMS facilities at the Vickers Street station, North Central and Northwood.

The Fire Hall on Brown Street would be renovated as a new EMS Station.

City staff believe the plan makes economic sense and will improve EMS response times on the City's southside.

The Fire Department is also looking to add three new staff at an annual cost of $378,000.

If approved, the number of Fire Rescue employees would sit at 213.

Also on the Agenda Monday night, the Thunder Bay North Stars hockey team is seeking a 20 per cent cut of the concession revenues at Fort William Gardens for home games and the upcoming Dudley Hewitt Cup tournament.
