Thunder Bay City Council has a busy month ahead of them.
Council will likely be meeting as many as two or three nights each week for the month of February as they deal with regular meetings on top of special budget sessions.
On Monday night’s regular scheduled council meeting, council will view a petition containing nearly 500 signatures requesting lighting and security cameras on a public walking trail.
Council will hear a deputation about the trail, which runs from Castlegreen through to McVicars Creek and the Sir John A. McDonald School Property. Some have labeled that area “the black path.”
The trail has become infamous for violence and criminal activity. It was also the scene of one of the city's homicides last year.
In other business, Councillor Iain Angus is asking his colleagues to look at the creation of a Youth Services Board.
Angus wants the city to be able to provide more options to keep youth busy and out of trouble.
Council will also be meeting Wednesday afternoon and night to begin discussions for the 2011 municipal budget.
