The city’s former waterfront project manager, Katherine Dugmore has died.

City council broke the news of Dugmore’s death at Monday night’s meeting and held a moment of silence. Dugmore was diagnosed with cancer in 2011 and took a leave of absence. She later returned in early 2012 to make several announcements for the waterfront.

She died on Sunday.

Dugmore took on the manager role back in 2007 but previously started working with the city two years earlier. Originally from Kirkland Lake, she worked alongside consultants to build the master plan and urban design guidelines for Prince Arthur’s Landing.

She worked more than 20 years in both land development and in the public sector as a planner and landscape architect.

Dugmore also helped on numerous projects including the Terry Fox monument.
She is survived by husband Mark Smith.

Greg Alexander, general manager of Community and Emergency Services, described Dugmore as a perfectionist who had high standards on how she worked. He said the high quality of work completed at the waterfront shows just how high those standards were.

“We were very sad to hear that Katherine passed away last night,” he said. “She was a very classy person, a great project manager who brought in the most complex project I’ve ever seen in my career. She did it with great pride and great integrity. She was an excellent person and we’ll miss her a lot.”
