The future of the Royal Edward Arms will be back at Council tonight.

The District of Thunder Bay Social Services Administration Board has decided not to renew its lease for the building.

A 30-year deal between the DSSAB and the city is set to expire in August of 2015, and about 60 people living there will need to be relocated.

What will become of the building after that date is up in the air. Coun. Andrew Foulds sits on the DSAAB and voted against the plan to let the lease expire.

He is asking the city to look at the condition of the building and report back by the end of the year.

Foulds is concerned about the availability of affordable housing in the city and feels the Royal Edward Arms could address those needs.

But he also thinks the building could provide economic development opportunities.

Although DSSAB will use the building for another year and a half, Foulds says future uses need to be examined now.
