The mayor thinks city council might be due for a change.

On Monday Coun. Ken Boshcoff wants his colleagues to consider asking the public whether city council should eliminate the ward system and only have at-large councillors. That led Coun. Trevor Giertuga to suggest that maybe the city should eliminate al at-large councillors and only have the ward system, a deputy mayor and mayoral positions. Mayor Keith Hobbs said both ideas have merit and that it's time city council takes a look.

"I kind of like the idea in a way I just want to study it a bit more," he said.

Reducing the number of councillors in one way or another and changing them to full-time positions might be more effective given the number of issues the city is facing.

"I really think we have to look at the number of councillors," Hobbs said.

Also Monday council will be asked to fund some major renovations for Dease and Heath Pools, discuss rising water rates, and hear several safety concerns from Gordon Avenue and the Valley Street area.
