Thunder Bay’s city council is getting set to appoint an eight-member disaster relief committee.
Council will meet in a closed session Monday to discuss the potential candidates who have come forward or been approached to fill the role. Provincial regulations prevent elected officials or anybody directly affected by the flood from sitting on the committee.
Members of the local disaster relief committee will be tasked with raising funds for the benefit of flood victims and settling the eligible claims of property owners.
The group of eight will hold their first meeting later in the week.
In other business, council is likely to make a lot of people at Hillcourt Estates happy.
Residents of the mobile home park on Rosslyn road have been worrying that the city was planning to sell the property.
However, a recommendation to not declare the property surplus will come forward during the regular scheduled council meeting Monday night.
Council will also hear from the head of Ontario Convenience Stores Association.
Dave Bryans is looking for support in stopping the spread of contraband and illegal tobacco in the city.
