The location of a new library and a major residential development will come before city council tonight.

Councillors will have five zoning bylaws to debate. Three of the proposed bylaw amendments are related to the new location for the Mary J L Black Library.

The City prefers the West Thunder Community Centre and St. Martin's School site for the reconstruction of the Mary J. L. Black Branch Library. Two other locations are also being considered as alternate sites should complications arise that would prevent the development on South Edward Street.

The alternate sites include city-owned property on South James Street adjacent to the railway crossing and the existing branch library site on Brock Street. Council will also consider rezoning city-owned lands at the northeast corner of Beverly Street and Balmoral Street.

The rezoning would allow the development of one, six-storey, 50-unit apartment dwelling and one, four storey, 40 unit apartment dwelling and sixty townhouses.

Approval would result in the sale and private sector development of the property for residential purposes
