Giovanna and Costantino Costanzo say they are still as much in love now as they were the day they first met.
The Thunder Bay couple celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary surrounded by a wide selection of family at DeLuca’s Family Restaurant on Saturday.
“We love each other very much,” the couple said, with translation assistance from their grandchildren. “We have two wonderful daughters and loving family and that’s all we could have ever asked for and with the help of God’s grace that has kept us together for that long.”
He first arrived in Thunder Bay in 1952 alone, and she followed five years later with their two daughters. The couple was entered into marriage on October 8, 1938.
The family has now expanded to include an extensive number of grandchildren and great grandchildren, as well as nieces and nephews.
“They’re just wonderful grandparents and we’re very proud to be a part of their family,” said granddaughter Nina Mauro.
The couple has received notices of congratulations from an array of prominent figures, including Pope Frances, Prime Minister Stephen Harper, Governor General David Johnston and Premier Kathleen Wynne.
Constantino, 93, credits good food and wine, as well as the work they do in the garden for the continued health and longevity for him and his wife, 90.
They advise young couples to stay in love as long as possible, be happy and help each other as much as possible.
