Thunder Bay's consolidated courthouse is getting some renovation work done, just two-and-a-half years after it opened its doors.
A ramp that leads to the secure area where prisoners are picked up and dropped off is back under construction. Work crews appear to be removing the concrete on the ramp.
A spokesperson for the province could only give TBT News some non-specific details of what was going on saying "it was determined that changes to the ramp and access control gate were necessary to improve access and safety.”
Work is expected to be completed by the end of the month.
In the meantime, a temporary secure access point for prisoners’ entry has been created.
The province says the cost of the work will be covered by the management company that built and maintains the courthouse.
