THUNDER BAY -- Just one new Thunder Bay pharmacy has been added to the list of local outlets given the go-ahead to administer COVID-19 vaccinations.

The Court Street Safeway Pharmacy was one of 707 pharmacies added to the provincial program on Sunday, bringing the city's total to four. Province-wide, there are about 1,500 pharmacies now taking part in the program, which supplies doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine to anyone aged 55 to 64.

The first round supplied 900 doses to the initial three Thunder Bay locations, which include the Shoppers Drug Mart on Red River Road, Dawson Heights Pharmacy and Oak Medical Pharmacy.

The province has expanded the program to 1,406 locations across Ontario. Kenora, Fort Frances and Dryden also have pharmacy clinics in place. No other locations in Northwestern Ontario were added to the list.

The province said start times for the newly added clinic will vary and will depend on vaccine supply.
