SIOUX LOOKOUT – The Northwestern Health Unit is reporting a new confirmed case of COVID-19 in the Dryden/Red Lake region.
There are now a total of five active cases in the health unit's territory, according to provincial COVID-19 data. It's the health unit's 68th total case.
It's also the second in three days in the Dryden/Red Lake region – the agency reported another positive case on Thursday.
The health unit made the announcement via Facebook Sunday, noting its policy not to disclose more specific location information for new cases.
The lack of geographic detail in new case announcements has drawn criticism from mayors in the region.
The health unit's Dryden/Red Lake region includes well over a dozen municipalities and First Nations: Balmertown, Cochenour, Dryden, Eagle Lake 27, Eagle River, Ear Falls, Eton-Rugby, Ignace, Machin, Madsen, Mckenzie Island, Melgund, Minnitaki, Oxdrift, Red Lake, Vermilion Bay, Wabauskang 21, Wabigoon, and Wabigoon Lake 27.
The health unit also refrains from releasing information such as gender, age, or method of transmission related to new cases. That information will be available through the province's online COVID-19 dataset, the health unit noted.
