COVID-19 case reported on Lakehead University campus

No details were made available on whether the individual is a staff member or student, but the Northern Ontario School of Medicine confirmed the individual is self-isolating and contact tracing is underway

THUNDER BAY - A recent positive case of COVID-19 in the city of Thunder Bay was found on the Lakehead University campus.

The Northern Ontario School of Medicine confirmed that a recent positive case is associated with an individual on campus, but did not provide any other details, including whether the individual is a staff member or a student.

“The individual is following direction from the Thunder Bay District Health Unit and is self-isolating,” a spokesperson with NOSM said in a statement. “The TBDHU is supporting contact tracing and will reach out to any individuals who came into close contact. NOSM is required to protect the privacy rights of individuals and cannot disclose any identifiable information.”

The positive case on the LU campus comes as the Thunder Bay District is seeing an outbreak of new COVID-19 cases.

The number of active cases in the district is now 58, with 200 cumulative cases total since the pandemic began. On Thursday, 11 new cases were reported.
