THUNDER BAY — The Thunder Bay District Health Unit reported 10 new COVID-19 cases across its service area on Monday.

However, 24 previously diagnosed cases were resolved over the previous two days.

This dropped the number of active cases to 67, which is 14 fewer than on Saturday.

Among the new cases, seven resulted from close contact with infected individuals, two have no known exposure source, and one remains under investigation.

Six of the cases are in First Nations communities, three are in the Thunder Bay area, and one is in a district community.

The TBDHU also reported six additional cases involving COVID-19 variants of concern have been identified.

The area case count had been growing steadily since May 26, when there were only 17 active cases across the district.

In the Northwestern Health Unit's jurisdiction, the pandemic is currently much more under control.

On Monday it reported no new cases within its service area.

There are only three active cases remaining, including two in the Sioux Lookout area and one in the Kenora area.
