THUNDER BAY — The Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre had a higher overall occupancy rate as of late Monday afternoon, despite a decline in the number of patients being treated for COVID-19.

The hospital reported that a total of 38 admitted patients have a positive diagnosis, and that nine of these people are in the intensive care unit.

In its previous update, issued on Friday, it said it had 40 COVID-19 patients including 13 in the ICU.

The hospital's occupancy rate at that time was 73 per cent, but on Monday it had increased to 80 per cent.

The TBRHSC also said that as of Monday, it is not actively diverting critical care patients to other locations across Ontario.

This is the result of a decrease in the number of patients in its critical care Unit.

According to a hospital statement, the volumes at its COVID-19 Assessment Centre have dropped in the past two weeks, from 335 patients daily to 278 patients a day.
