SIOUX LOOKOUT, Ont. – The Northwestern Health Unit has reported one new confirmed case of COVID-19, and another probable case, in its Rainy River region.
The health unit confirmed the news via social media Saturday evening, saying anyone identified as a contact of the two individuals would be contacted directly by public health authorities.
As defined by the NWHU, the Rainy River region encompasses a large area with around 30 communities, including Atikokan, Fort Frances, Rainy River, and numerous First Nations.
After seeing recent case surges in Kenora and Marathon, the health unit reported only two active COVID-19 cases in its catchment area as of Friday, with one each in the Rainy River and Kenora regions.
There had been 139 total confirmed cases in the NWHU's area as of Friday, with the other 137 considered resolved.
