THUNDER BAY – The Thunder Bay District Health Unit has confirmed a case of COVID-19 has been found at Westgate Collegiate and Vocational Institute.

The health unit had taken precautionary measures earlier in the week after a presumptive case was announced at the south-side school, including the dismissal of a cohort in an effort to prevent spread of the virus.

In a release sent out on Wednesday by Lakehead Public Schools, the board will co-operate with a full investigation expected to unfold over the next several days. The board said additional measures will be taken as needed to manage the situation.

Additional cohorts have also been sent home from McKellar Park Central Public School, following an investigation into COVID-19 cases found at the school.

There is no evidence the virus has spread at either school.
