THUNDER BAY – Some passengers on a March 1 Air Canada flight from Toronto to Thunder Bay could have been exposed to COVID-19, according to a federal exposure database.

Passengers who sat in rows 14 to 20 on AC7924 that day, an Air Canada Jazz flight, are considered to be at risk.

The Thunder Bay District Health Unit announced last month it would no longer report instances of low-risk exposure to COVID-19 on flights, saying the public was better served turning to a federal website.

The local health unit is not always aware of exposures on local flights when the infected individual is not a district resident, the agency explained at the time, raising concerns its database was painting an incomplete picture.

The federal database is “not exhaustive,” the government warns, but captures reports from various domestic and international health authorities of exposure on public conveyances.

Those who have travelled are recommended to periodically check the site for two weeks afterwards.

The health unit continues to strongly recommend against any non-essential travel.
