THUNDER BAY - There has been a slight increase in the number of hospitalizations in the district due to COVID-19, with 46 patients now admitted.
According to an update from the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, as of Wednesday there are a total of 46 COVID-19 positive patients admitted, with 14 in the intensive care unit.
This is an increase of two from Tuesday, which saw a total of 44 patients admitted and 13 in the ICU.
The Thunder Bay District Health Unit reports hospitalizations only for those inside the district, which is at 31 admitted and 10 in the ICU. The Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre also has patients from regional communities.
The overall capacity at the TBRHSC is at 79 per cent, as elective procedures have been delayed due to the increasing number of COVID-19 hospitalizations.
The hospital is also announcing the Dr. Peter Voros is taking over as the new incident management team lead. Voros is the executive vice-president of inpatient programs at the TBRHSC and will be taking over from Dr. Stewart Kennedy, who has been in the role since last year.
According to a statement issued by the hospital, changing the incident management team lead in emergency management is quite common.
