THUNDER BAY — The number of district residents who have died after contracting COVID-19 has risen to 95.
The Thunder Bay District Health Unit on Wednesday reported three additional cases in which the virus was determined to be either the underlying or a contributing cause of death.
But the recent downward trend in the number of reported active COVID-19 cases continues.
That total fell on Wednesday to 135, the lowest since April 11, 2022.
Thirty-four of these cases are newly diagnosed.
Case counts are no longer considered accurate due to a lack of access to molecular testing.
Health officials have said the true number could be five times higher or more.
The COVID-19 positivity test rate in the Thunder Bay district remained relatively unchanged at 14 per cent during the week of May 22 to 28.
In the prior week, 13.8 per cent of tests came back positive.
TBDHU reported Wednesday that 24 people who have tested positive for COVID are currently in hospital, but none are in intensive care.
