GREENSTONE, Ont. – A COVID-19 outbreak has been declared at St. Joseph Catholic School in Geraldton, days after the school pivoted to virtual learning after reporting an initial case.
A second person associated with the elementary school has now tested positive. The infection was deemed to have been acquired in the school setting, said the Thunder Bay District Health Unit in a release Sunday.
The prompted the declaration of an outbreak, consistent with provincial guidelines. The health unit will continue to assess the situation, it said.
The Superior North Catholic District School Board first reported a confirmed case at the school on Wednesday. The school closed the following day, and began remote learning Friday.
“The pivot to remote learning is due to the lack of staff and supply coverage as some staff is required to isolate,” the board said in a letter to the school community.
