THUNDER BAY - An outbreak of COVID-19 at a local long-term care home is now declared over.

The Thunder Bay District Health Unit said in a release issued on Tuesday that the outbreak at Pioneer Ridge long-term care home is over.

The outbreak was declared on Dec. 18 after a staff member tested positive for COVID-19. An additional staff member also tested positive.

Under provincial guidelines, an outbreak in a long-term care home is declared when one staff or resident tests positive for COVID-19.

Following the outbreak, the facility expanded precautions already in place for the duration of the outbreak to limit the possibility of further transmission.

No other staff or residents at Pioneer Ridge have tested positive for COVID-19, as confirmed through follow-up surveillance testing.
