THUNDER BAY – An outbreak of COVID-19 has been declared at the Walford retirement residence, impacting the first floor of the facility.

The Thunder Bay District Health Unit reported the outbreak in a statement Thursday, saying it had initiated a thorough assessment of the situation, but giving no details on the number of cases involved.

TBnewswatch has reached out to Oxford Living, which operates the home, for comment.

The health unit was monitoring six COVID-19 outbreaks in vulnerable settings across the district as of Thursday.

In addition to the Walford, that included outbreaks at Chartwell’s Arundel retirement residence, Hogarth Riverview Manor, Pioneer Ridge, the Nipigon District Memorial Hospital, and one other location not disclosed.
