FORT FRANCES, Ont. — The Northwestern Health Unit reports two new positive COVID-19 cases in the District of Rainy River.

Contact tracing is underway, and anyone identified as a contact will be notified.

In following its usual practice, the health unit on Wednesday did not disclose details including the precise location of the case.

However, it also revealed that it has declared an outbreak at the Pathways Atelier Day Care in Fort Frances, and has issued a closure order.

Under provincial regulations, a COVID-19 outbreak in a daycare is declared when there is one or more confirmed cases associated with the facility.

There are now 24 active COVID-19 cases in the District of Rainy River, three fewer than Tuesday's figure.

The Northwestern Health Unit also reported 14 active cases in the Kenora region (one fewer than Tuesday) and two ongoing cases in the Dryden/Red Lake region.
