THUNDER BAY – An outbreak of COVID-19 has been declared at the Chartwell Isabella retirement home in Thunder Bay's south end.

The Thunder Bay District Health Unit announced the facility-wide outbreak in a release Monday evening, saying two people associated with the home had so far tested positive.

The agency said it was implementing "enhanced surveillance and testing activities" in collaboration with home operator Chartwell Senior Living, and that public health would conduct a "thorough assessment" of the situation.

"Prior to the outbreak, significant measures were already in place to reduce likelihood of transmission of the virus within the facility," the health unit stated.
