THUNDER BAY — The Thunder Bay District Health Unit has confirmed an outbreak of COVID-19 at Mahmowenchike Family Development Centre's location at St. Ann School on Georgina Avenue.

In a Wednesday afternoon announcement, TBDHU said two individuals associated with the child care centre have tested positive for the virus.

The initial public health investigation shows that at least one of these people likely acquired COVID-19 in the child care setting.

TBDHU and Mahmowenchike staff are working together to investigate and manage the situation.

The health unit said additional measures will be taken as needed.

Last week, TBDHU also declared an outbreak at St. Ann School, where five cases were reported as of Nov. 26.

Across the Thunder Bay district, there were 94 active cases as of Wednesday morning.

The Ontario health ministry reported 780 new cases around the province.
