THUNDER BAY – The number of COVID-19 hospitalizations and active cases held steady in the Thunder Bay district over the weekend.
There were 25 COVID-positive patients admitted to hospital across the district, with four of those being treated in the ICU – numbers that remained unchanged since the health unit’s previous update on Friday.
The health unit’s hospitalization numbers are accurate to the end of day two days prior.
The health unit was tracking three outbreaks in vulnerable settings as of Monday, at the Pioneer Ridge and Hogarth Riverview Manor long-term care homes, and the Bethammi Nursing Home.
The agency reported 44 new confirmed COVID-19 cases since Friday, with an active count of 130, down from 143.
Health authorities continue to caution case numbers no longer provide insight into the spread of the novel coronavirus in the area, with access to PCR testing limited to vulnerable groups.
The district’s test positivity rate fell to 10.1 per cent for the most recent week reported, May 29 to June 4, based on around 1,371 tests conducted over that period.
