THUNDER BAY — The number of patients hospitalized in the Thunder Bay district with COVID-19 has increased since Monday.

The Thunder Bay District Health Unit reported Wednesday that there are 43 people in area hospitals who have tested positive for the virus.

That's an increase of seven over the past two days.

Five of the 43 patients are in intensive care, one more than on Monday.

TBDHU also announced 99 new confirmed cases of COVID-19, leaving the district's current active case load at 300.

That's 57 more than what was reported on Monday.

Ontario Public Health continues to caution that the actual number of active cases is likely much higher, since PCR testing is limited to vulnerable groups only, and since the results of rapid antigen tests are not included in the tally.
