THUNDER BAY — Details are sketchy, but a COVID-19 outbreak has been declared at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.
The hospital announced the outbreak Friday afternoon in the 2A unit of TBRHSC, in collaboration with the Thunder Bay District Health Unit.
Under health ministry guidelines, a COVID outbreak in a public hospital occurs when there are two or more positive test results in patients and/or staff in a specified unit within a 10-day period, where both cases could have reasonably acquired their infection in the hospital.
"We are conducting a thorough assessment of the situation and aligning our supports to enhance surveillance and testing," TBRHSC said in a statement.
As of mid-afternoon Friday, the hospital had 19 patients admitted who are COVID-19 positive, including five in its Intensive Care Unit.
TBRHSC said its current medical/surgical bed occupancy is at 100.4 per cent.
