A highway crash left a transport truck ripped apart, but despite the severity of the crash the injuries the driver sustained are being called non-life threatening.

Officers from the Rainy River District OPP responded to the single vehicle crash on Highway 11, about 20 kilometres west of Atikokan.

Police say the vehicle sustained major damage. The driver of the tractor trailer was taken to the Thunder Bay regional Health Sciences Centre and treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Police officers kept the highway open to a single-lane while they investigated the crash. Officers from the Thunder Bay detachment of the OPP also assisted in that investigation.

The cause of the crash is still unknown.

Police say more information will be released as it becomes available.
