After a four-month hiatus, the trial of a 22-year-old man charged with robbing a credit union near Rosslyn Road and Highway 130 continued Monday.

The trial of Bradley Tomeck, who faces a firearm’s offence and a charge of robbery, continued Monday with the testimony of Thunder Bay Police Service’s Const. Londyn Bilbrough.

The robbery occurred around 10:30 a.m. on Jan. 19, 2011. Using a 12-guaged sawed-off shotgun, the suspect took a large bag filled with more than $3,000 in cash and fled on foot.

Bilbrough testified to responding to the scene and being with the police dog and its handler when they discovered a duffel bag with a sawed-off shotgun and balaclava inside.

He said the police followed the dog to a trailer park in the Rosslyn Road area and the dog went off the roadway to a woodpile.

The area around the woodpile has covered in fresh snow with no footprints around it.

Officers found a duffel bag behind the woodpile and a firearm and balaclava was found inside of the bag.

Bilbrough testified he grabbed the gun to clear it, to ensure it wouldn’t fire, and noticed the chamber was empty but the magazine was loaded.

The Crown was expected to wrap up their case Monday with defense beginning their case Tuesday morning.

The trial is expected to continue until Thursday.
