The world's first opera written and sung in Cree was performed in Thunder Bay today for students at Superior Collegiate.
Pimooteewin, The Journey was written by internationally renowned author Tomson Highway, and was composed by Melissa Hui. It took more than five years to create and went on tour for the first time last year in Northeastern Ontario. The Toronto-based production will be performed at high schools throughout Northwestern and Central Ontario over the next few weeks. Stage Manager, Sam Joyce said it's great to share the Cree opera with young people.
17 shows are scheduled at high schools throughout the region. The production wraps up on May 7 in Red Rock.
