THUNDER BAY - Fire crews are on the scene of a large grass fire burning on the city’s south side between Broadway Avenue and Rosslyn Road.
Thunder Bay Fire Rescue crews arrived on the scene shortly before 2 p.m. Monday afternoon after receiving reports of a grass fire.
Large portions of grass north of Broadway Avenue, east of Highway 61, and south of Rosslyn Road have already burned and fire crews remain on the scene putting out hotspots. Motorists should expect delays on Broadway Avenue and Rosslyn Road.
This is the latest grass fire Thunder Bay Fire Rescue has responded to after battling more than 15 over the last three days, six of which were considered large in size.
With dry and windy conditions this spring, grass fires are more likely to ignite and spread quickly. Thunder Bay Fire Rescue are asking people to exercise extreme caution with any smoking materials or working outside with open flames or sparks.
This is a developing story and will be updated when more information becomes available.
