THUNDER BAY -- Emergency crews were on scene Thursday morning after a malfunctioning fan resulted in smoke and the evacuation of a north-side apartment complex.

Several Thunder Bay Fire Rescue crews were on scene investigating the mid-morning incident at a building located at the corner of Red River Road and High Street, with hose lines snaked into the structure.

It was determined that a malfunctioning fan released smoke throughout the apartments and residents were evacuated while fire crews cleared the building.

Thunder Bay Police were also at the scene, directing traffic. High Street is blocked from Red River Road to Dufferin Street, and only the westbound lane on Red River Road, between High Street and Summit Avenue is open as of 9 a.m.

A Synergy North truck was also called to the incident.
