THUNDER BAY -- École Gron Morgan is going to be getting a new look.
The crumbling bricks on the outside of the building will be completely replaced in a facade renewal project.
The Lakehead School board is waiting for the tender on the work to close on Sept. 29 and are planning to begin the work soon after.
At this time, there are fences and plywood keeping students safe from the crumbling bricks.
These safety precautions were put in place after a student was hit on the head by a falling brick back in February.
The student's parents, Russ and Anne Desjardin said they're pleased the school blocked off the area promptly, and that the exterior is being rebuilt.
The construction work will be completed throughout this school year.
“It will have no impact on the inside of the school building, so students won’t notice anything out of the ordinary with their regular school day,” said Lakehead Public Schools superintendent Sherri-Lynne Pharand.
“Certainly, the areas that are under construction they will have again all of the appropriate construction fencing and things to keep pedestrian traffic out of the area where the construction is occurring.”
The cost of the project is not known as the tender has not yet closed.
