THUNDER BAY -- Unionized city workers will move forward and vote on a proposal from the City of Thunder Bay Friday.
Some sources indicated Thursday that the vote may be cancelled and that the union and city would return to the negotiating table.
The city, however, issued an official media release Thursday afternoon confirming that the vote was still scheduled to proceed.
City workers represented by CUPE Local 87 met Wednesday evening to discuss the most recent proposal.
That proposal came as a strike deadline passed Monday, Oct. 31, which led to a new strike deadline of Monday, Nov. 7. Few details are known about the city's proposal.
Neither officials from the City of Thunder Bay or CUPE Local 87 have spoken to media about negotiations following advice from a mediator.
CUPE Local 87 represents some 700 city employees.
If an agreement cannot be reached and the union does move toward strike action, several city services including garbage collection, could be impacted.
