Cyclists killed

Two cyclists are dead after a collision near Nipigon Tuesday afternoon. The pair, part of a group of 25 cyclists travelling from Vancouver, were struck by an eastbound pick-up truck on Highway 11/17 near Red Rock Road 9 just after 3 p.m.

Two cyclists are dead after a collision near Nipigon Tuesday afternoon.

The pair, part of a group of 25 cyclists travelling from Vancouver, were struck by an eastbound pick-up truck on Highway 11/17 near Red Rock Road 9 just after 3 p.m. The truck then struck a westbound pick-up and a tractor trailer. 

The male and female cyclists from North Glengarry, Ont. were pronounced dead at the scene. 

The victims have since been identified as 65-year-old Robert Booth and 69-year-old Irene Booth. The 66-year-old male driver and 62-year-old female passenger from Austin, Texas in the eastbound lane were taken to hospital with undetermined injuries. The 60 and 68-year-old male occupants of the westbound tractor-trailer unit were also taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries, wihile the 42-year-old Paris, Ont. driver of the westbound pick-up and his 42-year-old male passenger from Thunder Bay were not injured.
