THUNDER BAY - City police are warning the public to stay away from the Heron Street area.

In a release issued on Wednesday night, Thunder Bay Police say they have cordoned off the block contained within the area of Ogden Street to Finlayson Street and Simpson Street to McKenzie Street.

A reporter on scene says he heard two loud bangs as the standoff continued

"Police are strongly discouraging people from entering into the contained area in an attempt to obtain a view of the scene. By entering an area contained by police, members of the public are putting themselves, police and the subject(s) in jeopardy," police said in the release.

Updates will be provided as they becomes available.
