Dates for an inquest into the death of a Sioux Lookout man who died in a confrontation with police have been announced.

Brian Gray, 39, was killed in May of 2010 following an armed hostage taking.

Gray was exiting a home where the incident had taken place with a hostage, when police ordered him to drop his weapon.

Instead Gray fired a shot into the air, at which point officers discharged their weapons resulting in fatal wounds.

An SIU investigation concluded there were no reasonable grounds to conclude police had committed a criminal offence.
The inquest into the death will May 2 at the Lac Seul Events Centre and is expected last 10 days.

Dr. Roger Skinner has been named as the Presiding Coroner.
